GENTO

Sept 2022 - Aug 2023

GENTO (Generations Together) is an interactive mobile platform designed to bridge generational gaps by enabling younger generations to collaborate with their grandparents in creating and sharing meaningful content. The app captures the rich experiences of older generations—whether through cooking traditions, storytelling, or life lessons—preserving these memories in a digital album. Users can choose to share these cherished moments privately with a select group or publicly, fostering intergenerational connection and inspiration.
GENTO ensures that the wisdom and stories of our elders, often overlooked in today’s digital age, are celebrated and accessible for generations to come.

Context

GENTO was my final project for last year’s university coursework (French work). The challenge was to individually develop an app concept that fosters social connections and present a fully functional prototype by the end of the academic year. Throughout the process, I collaborated with an assigned professional mentor who provided regular guidance, helping me refine the concept and push the boundaries of the idea. This iterative approach culminated in a comprehensive report documenting the research, development process, and final design of the project.
Through competitive research, personas research, moodboards, ideation and finally designing, this work was thought to put us in every role of the creation process of a digital product.

Research

To design an effective user flow, I first needed to explore the dynamics between older and younger generations and their interactions with technology. This research helped me identify the unique needs and preferences of each group, enabling me to tailor the experience to bridge generational gaps and create a more inclusive platform.
I set an online form to gather a wide range of data and I conducted 4 in person interviews:
- A Sociology teacher specialised in Family and intimacy
- A paramedic coordinator in a Senior house
- A young woman with both a good relationship with her maternal grandparents and a complicated one with her parental grandparents
- A senior woman of 80+, writing a book about her life for her grandchildren
I also conducted a SWOT analysis, a competitor analysis and a Marketing analysis.
